Course Description
This course provides a personalized introduction to wellness; wellness components of flexibility, muscular strength/endurance, cardiovascular wellness, and body composition, weight management, stress management, and how students can apply this information healthful living. Opportunities are provided to learn updated information on HIV/AIDS and to assess one's personal wellness status through health related fitness and nutrition assessments.
Methods of Instruction
This is a 1-credit hour course. Normally, a one-credit hour course would meet two times each week (during a 8 week term) for a total of 3 hours per week or 32 hours per term. In this class, we will not meet except online, and you will engage in structured outside or online activities for the remainder of the class time. Course assignments will include one midterm, one final, discussions and project lab assignments. The four (4) project lab assignments will include health evaluation, entry level physical fitness assessment tests, a nutritional analysis and stress/cardiovascular health. This information will assist you in determining the workload for this course.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student shall be able to:
1. Assess their current level of health related components.
2. Discuss their different dimensions of wellness
3. Discuss flexibility, cardiovascular fitness; muscular strength/endurance as components of wellness; and demonstrate exercises to enhance flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and muscular/strength endurance.
4. Identify the basic elements of good nutrition as they relate to wellness.
5. Discuss stress management and its importance for wellness.
7. Discuss HIV/AIDS and the precautions necessary to prevent contraction and transmissions of HIV

Students in this course should be familiar with the following computer skills.
File Management - You should be familiar with finding and saving files on your computer.
The Internet - You should be familiar with connecting to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider or Network Connection.
Web Browser Software - You should be familiar with using web browser software to navigate the Internet and locate information.
Email - You should be familiar with sending and receiving email messages.
Discussions - You should be familiar with posting and reading discussion messages in a threaded format.
Attachments - You should be familiar with sending email messages with attached files.
Word Processing - You should be familiar with creating, editing, saving, and printing documents using Microsoft Word.

Find your e-mail username by logging into myBC and selecting Student E-mail/Account Information.

Password: Birth month and year unless you have changed it (MMYYYY).
